Getting into character isn’t always easy. Free yourself of all outside distractions for 30 minutes before you go on stage. This will force your mind to focus on the monologue (if you truly want it to) so that every moment is real and true, coming directly from your heart. If 30 minutes seems excessive after you try it, bring it down a few minutes the next time. I wouldn’t go any shorter than 15. In that time, visualize the character you’re becoming. Your aspirations are his aspirations. Your thoughts are his thoughts. Your movements are his movements. In that time, begin to think as that character. Anything that you need to do as you should be done as that character would do it. After a while you’ll start to realize that you’re not getting into character, the character is getting into you. This will make your monologue so much more real and true.

As for the commercial audition. That text looks like crap and will not take you anywhere if you read it exactly as its written. Try reading it like this but make it your own so that you’re comfortable with it. If you’re not comfortable, it won’t be good.
